Have Americans become complacent?

On September 11, 2001 the World Trade Center or Twin Towers fell, the worst domestic terrorist attack the U.S. has ever seen. A total of four planes were hijacked that day. American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were hijacked by terrrorists and deliberately crashed into the towers within seven minutes of each other. At approximately 5:20 p.m. the World Trade Center collapsed. Countless firefighters, policemen and volunteers lost their lives trying to rescue survivers in the wreckage. Americans were flooded with a slew of emotion and disbelief. The heroic tale of United Airlines Flight 93 was like a movie script and would later be turned into one. American Airlines Flight 77 was the third to be hijacked and was crashed into the pentagon. The United States pledged retribuion, two wars spawned out of the tragedy. The official death toll stands as 2,752.
Eight years later, there is little mention of this momentous anniversary just a few minutes of the presidents visit to a memorial at the Pentagon. Some have probably gave it some thought and some have went on with their day with not even a slight recollection. The two wars have become increasingly unpopular and a new president has been elected partly because he vowed to end one of them. Osama Bin Laden, the main suspect and confessed orchestrator of the tragedy has still not been caught, dead or alive. Army generals are asking for more troops and Congress is more resistant. Is the memory of September 11th, 2001 less important as years go by? Have Americans become complacent?
